Concrete Preparation The performance of a 100% solids epoxy starts with the concrete underneath it. Self leveling refers to the way the resin flows. It does not replace proper surface preparation. Remove dirt, oil, grease, curing compounds, sealers, adhesive, and other contaminants. Remove loose, incompatible, or poorly bonded existing coatings. Mechanically prepare concrete to approximately CSP 3 unless the complete flooring system specifies otherwise. Vacuum the floor thoroughly after grinding or shot blasting. Repair cracks, pits, spalls, and damaged concrete before applying the epoxy. Evaluate concrete moisture before deciding whether this epoxy can be installed directly to the slab. Primer and Moisture Decisions Still Matter: This epoxy may be installed directly over suitable properly prepared concrete, but not every slab should receive the same system. Porous concrete can outgas through a high build coating, and excessive concrete moisture can cause flooring failures. Full 3 Gallon Kit Mixing Instructions A full kit contains a large volume of reactive 100% solids epoxy. Correct mixing is critical, and once mixing is complete the material should immediately leave the bucket. Premix Part A. Thoroughly mix the Base before adding the Activator, especially when using a pigmented kit. Add all of Part B. Pour the complete Activator directly into the center of Part A. Avoid pouring Activator onto the sides of the Base container. Use a Cage or Box style mixer. We recommend only a Cage or Box style mixer for a complete 3 gallon kit. Mix for 2 full minutes. Mix at approximately 300 to 450 RPM and move the mixer throughout the material. Immediately pour the epoxy onto the floor. Do not leave mixed material sitting in the bucket while you prepare tools, cut edges, or finish another area. Do not drain or scrape the remaining bucket residue onto the floor. Material remaining on the sides or bottom of the container may not be mixed as completely as the main batch. For full kit mixing, use a Box Mixer or equivalent Cage style mixer. Mix it and GET IT OUT OF THE BUCKET. This is a basic rule for One Stop Epoxy 100% solids products. The epoxy reaction creates heat. Keeping a mixed batch concentrated in the bucket allows that heat to build rapidly and can dramatically shorten usable working time. Once the batch is properly mixed, pour it onto the floor immediately. Bucket Time Is Not Floor Working Time This distinction matters with 100% solids epoxy. Warmer conditions require faster placement, spreading, rolling, and broadcasting. Contractor Tip: Have the concrete prepared, edges ready, squeegees and rollers laid out, decorative media opened, and the crew in position before Part A and Part B are combined. The time to organize the job is before you mix the epoxy. Mixing Smaller Batches Partial batches must maintain the exact 2 parts Part A to 1 part Part B by volume ratio. Recoat Window and Return to Service Recoat timing matters because the next epoxy layer or topcoat must bond correctly to the cured surface. Do not place the floor into service simply because the surface feels dry. Using It for a Full Flake Floor This epoxy is an excellent pigmented receiver coat for a full flake flooring system. Apply the epoxy at the required coverage rate and broadcast decorative vinyl flakes to rejection while the resin remains wet. After the epoxy cures, scrape the flake surface in multiple directions and vacuum thoroughly before installing the clear wear coat. Poly Gloss 85 Polyaspartic is a common final topcoat for One Stop Epoxy full flake systems. Select Regular or Slow Go based on floor size, temperature, working time requirements, and installer experience. Using It for a Partial Flake Floor For a partial flake floor, use the pigmented epoxy as the visible body coat and broadcast a controlled amount of decorative flakes into the wet resin. Unlike a full broadcast floor, the epoxy color remains an important part of the finished appearance. After cure, seal the floor with the topcoat specified for the system. Using It as a Metallic Epoxy Base Coat Metallic epoxy floors normally begin with a solid color epoxy base. The base coat creates a consistent background and prevents raw concrete color and surface variation from interfering with the metallic design layer. Use the appropriate pigmented Self Leveling 100% Solids Epoxy as the base coat, then apply Metallic Dream Epoxy as the metallic body coat. Do not use this product as a substitute for a dedicated metallic body coat. High moisture concrete: Test the slab and use a suitable Moisture Vapor Barrier when moisture conditions exceed the limits of the planned flooring system. Metallic body coats: Use Metallic Dream Epoxy when the epoxy itself needs to provide metallic movement and design time. Aggressive chemical exposure: General purpose epoxy should not be selected simply because it is 100% solids.
