The Seal Coat Rule
If you take one thing from this page, take this. Almost every bubble in a finished bar top came from air that escaped the wood or concrete, not from mixing.
Porous material outgasses. As the surface warms, air pushes up out of the pores and straight into your flood coat, and it cures there permanently. The fix is a thin seal coat first, brushed or squeegeed on at 30 to 40 square feet per gallon. It locks the air in the substrate where it belongs. Then your flood coat lays down over a sealed surface and releases what little air is left on its own.
Skip the seal coat and you will be chasing bubbles with a torch and losing.
This Is a Flood Coat, Not a Deep Pour
Saying this plainly so nobody learns it the expensive way. This is a thin film flood coat with a hard limit of 1/8 inch per lift.
Pour it thicker and it overheats. That is not a warning about finish quality, it is chemistry: the exotherm runs away, and you get yellowing, ripples, or cracks in a piece you cannot fix. Deep casting work, river tables between live edge slabs, and object encapsulation all need a low exotherm casting resin, which is a different product built for depth. We do not stock one at this time.
For a bar top, a table surface, or a countertop, 1/8 inch is not a limitation. It is the correct build. Multiple lifts get you more depth if you want it.
Add Color
This is where a clear resin gets interesting. The same metallic pigments and solid color pigments that build metallic floors work in a bar top, and the 30 to 45 minute working time gives you room to move them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bar Top Epoxy
How thick can I pour bar top epoxy at one time?
1/8 inch per lift, and that limit is real. Thicker and the material overheats, which causes yellowing, ripples, or cracking. If you want more depth, pour additional lifts rather than one thick one.
Can I use this for a river table?
Not for the deep pour between the slabs. That needs a low exotherm casting resin built for depth, and we do not stock one at this time. This resin is a flood coat for the finished surface.
Do I need to torch out the bubbles?
Usually not, if you sealed the surface first. This system releases air well over a sealed substrate. A quick pass with a torch or heat gun can pop the stragglers, but if you are fighting bubbles, the seal coat is what failed.
Why is the seal coat so important?
Bubbles come from air escaping the wood or concrete underneath, not from your mixing. A thin seal coat locks that air in the substrate so it cannot ruin the flood coat on top.
Do I have to sand between coats?
Not if the second coat goes on within 12 to 24 hours. After 24 hours you need to scuff with 220 grit to get a mechanical bond.
Is bar top epoxy food safe?
Once fully cured, 100% solids epoxy is generally considered inert and suitable for incidental food contact, which is why it works for kitchen counters and dining tables.
Can I add color to it?
Yes. It takes metallic pigments, solid color pigments, and dyes, and the 30 to 45 minute working time is long enough to swirl a pattern and have it stay where you put it.
Is this beginner friendly?
Yes. The 2 to 1 ratio is forgiving and the working time is long enough that you are not fighting a clock. Seal your surface, mix slowly, pour, and let it lay down.
What happens if a fan is blowing on it?
Moving air skins the surface over before the resin has finished self leveling, and you get a permanent wavy finish. Turn off fans, point HVAC vents away, and keep it out of direct sun.
Can I use this on my garage floor?
It is the wrong tool. This is built for counters and furniture, not for slabs under traffic. Use a 100% solids floor epoxy or a complete flooring system instead.
